“Sabine Weiss, photographer of light and tenderness”.
For forty-five years, this Swiss-born photographer has been using her camera to meet others with tenderness and untiring curiosity. A former assistant to fashion photographer Willy Maywald in the late 1940s, she has been trained in the best studio lighting techniques and, paradoxically, has understood from this experience the full importance of natural light as a source of emotion. A member of the Rapho Agency since 1953, she is associated with this line of so-called “humanist” photographers who made history in the 1950s and 1960s. He has produced numerous fashion reports, portraits of celebrities and artists (Giacometti, Braque, etc…) for “Vogue” magazine. An important and regular contributor to the American press, Sabine Weiss also takes on decorating assignments for the international press, and regularly works in advertising. With equal skill and sensitivity, she ensures colour and black and white reportage in the most diverse fields. Apart from her commissioned work, she always took pictures for “herself”. Over time, he devoted himself almost exclusively to black and white reportage, which allowed him to express through his travels with “more calm and simplicity” this encounter between man and his universe, this fullness of light that obsesses him. By establishing endless dialogues with them, at the random walks of his lens, he translates with his gaze that touching moment in which, with a gesture, an attitude, all that is essential in the other is revealed. La exposición «De Paso» testimonia la mirada curiosa, tierna y divertida de la gran fotógrafa humanista en todo el mundo, entre 1949 y 1996.
