galeria cadaqués presents, as a summer exhibition, joseph beuys, an exceptional and international exhibition with works of reference in the history of art and current works. the artist joseph beuys, fundamental to our radical european culture, died 30 years ago in düsseldorf and 35 years ago he exhibited for the first time in spain at the galeria cadaqués under the guidance of lanfranco bombelli.

the vindication and record of his poetics and politics have led the writer and art critic vicenç altaió, the gallery owner and collector huc malla and the artist erika prüfert to curate this exhibition, to which artists with a strong link to beuys have been invited.

The rose für direkte demokratie (1973), the rose test tube for direct democracy, and the suite schwurhand, produced between 1949 and 1970 by joseph beuys, are exhibited as reference works. Around it are works by three historic artists who were close friends with each other and with Beuys himself: Marcel Broodthaers, Richard Hamilton and Dieter Roth. The exhibition will include two exceptional paintings by jörg immendorff and an iconic work by blinky palermo.

alfredo jaar’s work “cultura = capital”, referring to beuys’ well-known slogan kunst = kapital, has been produced in a Spanish and/or Catalan edition for the occasion. among the artists with conceptual roots who were strongly impacted by beuysian proposals, antoni muntadas, jordi benito, concha jerez and fina miralles present works with a theoretical basis or that highlight the importance of materials as a transformation of reality, or of ritual as a performative event.

oscar murillo’s participation must be highlighted, thanks to the recent collaborations between david zwirner gallery and galeria cadaqués, pointing from the galeria cadaqués a look at the most international artists of the current scene. Also worthy of note is the presence of juergen teller, who has produced a unique work of explicit homage, of peter fillingham -historical member of the young british artists-, and by mathieu pernot and marine hugonnier, which revitalise once again the personal relationship between the most advanced, prospective and inaugural art and cadaqués. entre los catalanes, perejaume ha establecido como pocos la relación entre arte, cultura y naturaleza y eulàlia valldosera, que inició su trayectoria con un ritual sobre el cuerpo de mujer, presenta dos imágenes como testigo.

among the younger artists and new contributions, jordi mitjà has created a sculpture that places significance in the symbolic object, jesús galdón with the artisanal tool for painting the sacred, as well as valérie prot with the sledges and the significance in beuys’ biography; alícia casadesús pays literal homage to beuys and, in an authentic and sincere prayer, illuminates the foundational materials of beuys’ work day by day; xavi déu makes an offering with the natural material of beeswax and its chromatic pigmentation; erik rosdahl, multifaceted artist, from the border between oenology and art, ariadna serrahima, from the border between design and art, and rosa tharrats, from the border between clothing aesthetics and art, put into practice the transforming community of art and the indiscipline of creativity.
